The extended family in modern society can include family members in the family structure that aren't a part of the nuclear family. These extended family members often include aunts, uncles, and cousins who spend time together participating in family activities and sharing important moments in family life.
There are two basic kinds of family in our society Joint Family and Nuclear Family. A Joint Family (or extended family) is also known as a complex family, parents and their children’s families often live under a single roof, which means that Joint family consist of two or multiple generations.. The parent and child would be able to talk to each other about almost everything so that when one is feeling heavy burdened, all he has to do is talk about it with the other.Another family type in our society is the Extended Family. It may include parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.Being in this type of family may mean lots of love.
Yet, during the past 50 years, our society has undergone big social transformations which are seen as “dramatic and unparallel changes” or a “veritable revolution”. Thus, the two basic forms of family, the extended family and the nuclear family, are losing their original social function, meaning and power gradually. They no longer stay.
Sociology of family and marriage. A family is a basic unit in society that consists of blood related persons living together. However, this definition is not totally applicable in today’s complementary society due to variations in family relations (Henslin, 2010). Historically, the family structure types were nuclear and extended.
An extended family is also the closest form of society children have. Having more people in the house often helps small children learn how to act and behave in various situations. An extended family consists of two or more families living together in the same household.
The concept of living with an extended family might seem daunting in the beginning but it has its own benefits. Earlier, people used to rejoice living with their extended families under a single roof but now they seem to have changed their lifestyles.
